Workshop Description

The Trumpet All-State Prep workshops are from a series of workshops spread out over the year which are aimed at increasing the trumpet student's musical maturity. The series is presented by well-known trumpeter, Eddie LewisWorkshop #3 is probably the most important of the six workshops. The all-state audition music will be newly announced and in this workshop the students will be given study guides, recordings, and a tip sheet to make the learning process more efficient. Efficiency is most important at this stage of the process. The students who struggle with the music and spend the entire semester learning the etudes will lag behind those who follow a more efficient strategy. The goal is to learn the music early and polish it in the final weeks before the competition.

If you as a student have been following the program up to this point, you will have a solid foundation to build on. By Workshop #3, you should be able to use vibrato confidently, be able to play musical phrases, have enough rhythmic control to play three vs. two and four, have command of most arpeggios, and you should have been through all keys of the tonalization studies. Note that these are not prerequisites for Workshop #3. Instead, they are part of the winning strategy outlined in this workshop series. Students who have reached this level of playing before the music is announced will do far better than those who have not.

That said, this workshop is for ALL high school trumpet players at all levels. If you haven’t spent the summer practicing, don’t let it discourage you because the things you learn from this workshop will make a difference for you, too.  If you missed workshops #1 and #2, do not make the mistake of missing workshop #3 as well.
