Challenge Launch Date:
6 July 2009
Baseline Test Date: 13-18 July 2009
Challenge Test Date: 14-26 Sep 2009
What is the challenge?
This is an endurance challenge and the
objective is to play as much of the given piece, at the prescribed
tempo, as possible with a single breath of air.
So how does this challenge work?
The challenge sheet music is now available for
download from this page. Students are
advised to download the music so they can familiarize themselves with
it before the BASELINE TEST.
During the week of
13-18 July, students
should bring their copy of the challenge music to their lesson.
Each student will have ONE opportunity (during their lesson) to record
their best baseline time for the challenge. The baseline test is
required for eligibility in the "most improved" category of the
challenge. A student who is unable to attend a lesson during
this baseline test week will still be able to participate in the
challenge, but will not be eligible for the "most improved challenger"
award.
Students will have
approximately 3 months to work on their endurance using the challenge
music. During the weeks of 14-26
Sep, each student
will be granted a maximum of TWO opportunities (one per week) to
record their best time for this challenge. The better of these two
times will be used to determine the over-all winner of the quarterly
challenge.
Won't the music be too difficult for me?
As you will see when you download the
challenge music, the music is accessible to musicians of all skill
levels. The test is an endurance test and will not be testing
other skills.
What does it cost to participate?
There is no cost to participate. All
students of Eddie Lewis are encouraged to take a deep breath and
courageously take up this challenge.
Who may participate?
This challenge is extended to students (all ages
and all skill levels) of Eddie Lewis. While any visitor to this
webpage may take up this challenge as an enrichment exercise, only
students of Eddie Lewis are eligible for any awards associated with
this challenge. To learn how to become a student of Eddie Lewis,
